Lookin' Great! Thanks for the videos too. I think you're right about the Durabak It actually looks shiny now. I like the emblem too. I think mine was x-19 ? It wasn't on there when I got it.

Ok, now I'm enlightened.
My sun deck covers hinge at the back, rise to ~ 70?. It never occured to me that they *could* hinge at the sides also. I see no holes in your rear glass so I'm guessing they were always hinged at the side, Jay?
What supports them in the middle, over the motor?

Oops, ignore my last question, I see a strip (plywood?) with carpet on it.
It lifts out of the way for engine access?

Yes, the center portion is removable for access tot eh engine. I am actually going to re-engineer that soon, but i am not sure what I want to do. 81 was the first year for the SX-190 and the deck always hinged from the sides. I think that changed in 82 or 83.

Mountain man, I think yours is an X-19. It is almost the same boat, but did not have as many options. I believe 85 was the last year of the SX-190 and 86 was the first year of the X-19. They were no longer offering the V8 as an option and gone was the swim deck.

That is not a bad idea. I am going for the quick release system. What is on there is not real sturdy. I just need to noodle it around for a while.

Looks nice Jay, but you can give up on the "almost done" phrase! You will always be tweaking it!

You are right about the almost done part.

Man Jay, your boat is tight. You really brought the color back too. Impressive.

Those struts have a good solid mount. I'd be tempted to put nylon straps on it just in case a wind gust tries to fold them backwards and bend the strut rod. You could use some flat cabnet door magnets to keep the doors down. It'd be bad to lose those going down the highway. A drain tray under that center seam or a thick rubber gasget between the doors might help keep the water off the engine. Just thinking.

Another thing I'd like to install on mine is stern mounted tilt switch for the drive.

Do you have a bimini top?

I'm real good at speding other peoples money:D

Good idea storing the boat in the garage. You could put your trailer tires in there too. Stuff lasts so much longer out of the eliments.

I'm working hard to get my floor down before the real heat arrives. Arn't you glad you're not doing this?

So will this thread be moved to the completed section when I am finished?

PM me when you are. (It's not as easy as moving the thread and there will be some work on your part but I'll help as much as I can).

Clockwatcher, yes I am glad I am not at your stage right now. How soon do you think you will have it done?

Maybe July or August (hopefully of 2010). With work and kids I only get the weekends to work on it. I've picked up a lot of good tips from your project. Thanks. Maybe I should start a rebuild thread?

Remember if you use multiple coats of texture, it's gonna be too much. One coat texture, and top coat with non -textured... I can't wait to see the new 5.7 in there!!!!!!!!!!!

Jay the boat is incredible bro-

I thought the same thing about the smooth Durabak... I mentioned that to ya way back in December, and now you've confirmed my theory! If i ever do the Durabak again I will top with smooth...

Your gonna love the carpet!

I hope you and the family have a great summer!

I remember you saying that now. It really is much nicer now.

Ok, here is the latest. I just cannot be without a project. I am talking to a guy about a 1988 Yammy wave runnner. I have seen and heard it run on the water, but it is VERY ugly. No glass damage but everything needs freshening to make it presentable in public. Here is the problem... NOT TITLE! He is only asking $350.00 for the thing, but I do not know about getting a title and how hard that will be. Anyone from Texas know? I am also talking to a guy in Ponder about an O/B 18Ft Glastron Carlson. I have seen pictures, but not is person. I want to see if this Wave Runner Pans out.

I lived in Texas for 3 or 4 yrs and owned many Jet ski's while I was there. I recall having to deal with a title situation on one of them, and I don't believe it was very big deal. Fish and Game handles them and they were very helpful. Call and tell them your situation. That the owner is willing to sign off on the ski and will not be going bond on it. They will most likely call the last registered owner and confirm the situation.

One bit of advice..those old Wave Runners(if its the old 2 seater 650 I'm thinking it is) SUCK big time. Very unstable, slow and suck in any type of chop. Does it look like this??http://phoenix.craigslist.org/wvl/boa/1729991697.html
I guess it all depends on what you are looking to do with the thing, (something more stable for the wife and kids, or something sporty for you to run around on) but I don't think this ski is very good for either. For your family I would look for something like a Yamaha Wave Venture, they are an older model 3 seater Yamaha that won't brake the bank...don't get the 760 motor, look for an 1100. Great pulling power and does a good job with multiple passengers.

OTOH, if you are just looking for something cheap to throw around for a while..you might be ok, but don't expect very much out of it. Good luck.

That is it, but it only has a 550. I think I will pass on this one for now, as the guy is a real flake. I cannot get him nailed down at all. Takes forever to respond to voicemails and email. I basically told him this evening, "If you want to sell it, lets do this, otherwise I am done.

Thanks a ton for the info.

Even worse..seriously, let it go. No problem..I've owned and ridden many different ski's, that is the dinosaur of sit down jet ski's. If you ever get serious about getting one, I should be able to steer you in the right direction for what you hope to get out of it.

Take care

BTW..your boat is looking sick!! Excellent work.

Hey frisco,
Those are some nice add-ons. I really like those gas shocks, looks good.
Be careful with the projects they tend to grow. :D A lot like gremlins.:D:p
Take care
