I jsut got a '82 15hp evinrude and whenever I start it it will run for about 10-15 sec and then it stops. Sometimes it will kick into high idle and then stop. I was wondering if the carbs needed to be cleaned or if there was something else wrong with it

I have the same year and runs like it's never going to stop. (maybe I shouldn't have said that). Go to this link and follow the instruction for awakening a sleeping outboard. There are lots of things you should do to make certain it will keep running trouble free. Don't be afraid to ask. I'll throw in some other links that should be of interest as well. Best of luck. Rick.

Your welcome. My best guess is you need to clean the carb. and put a kit into it. Sounds as though you low speed path is plugged up. If it hasn't been done recently you really can't go wrong and then you will know it has been and can cross it off your list. I would also recommend new gas lines from your tank to the carb. as the new ethanol blends are causing the old lines to delaminate on the inside. Do the lines before putting your clean carb. back in service. Rick.
