I am trying to figure out where this water is getting in my lower unit. I haven't taken it apart yet but have got a presure gauge on it and it leaks off from 15# to 0# in 30 minutes.I am trying to locate a bucket big enough to set it in during this test. Does anybody have a exploded view of this size of motor on the lower unit? I have a OMC service manual for 2 thru v-6 and it dosen't have the exploded view of the 35 hp lower unit.I just would like to know what I am looking at before I get into it. Any info on this problem would be great... thanks ahead of time

don't need a bucket, just use some warm water with dish soap. Take a rag, dip it in , and squeeze the rag to dispence the mixture on the suspected areas. You'll see bubbles right away!!
Remember, the shift lever is disconnected from the plastic water intakes below the cavitation plate....

Put 15# psi to lower unit and it held for 3 hours.... I think I had a hose leaking the first time.I am trying to test this thing with the lower unit still installed on the powerhead. I guess I'll go ahead and try the vacume test. I am open for any comments or ideas. thanks again

Yes I drained the oil overnight. I put 26# vacume on it and it has held for 1 hour so far. Is it a possible that it just created moisture in there?? I don't know anything else I can check. Maybe I will put oil back in it and check it in a couple weeks. Anyother ideas from anybody????? thanks ahead of time

Yo signfinder
I think you already found your leak. Its called "tired fill and vent gaskets". Replace them, put fresh oil and retest motor in water.

Good luck!!

:)
