I am having trouble with my 82 Evinrude 50hp. Won't idle very good. Carbs have been cleaned 3 times (and once before I owned it by local marina). Top plug looks good, bottom plug is wet with fuel. I was testing on ear muffs and it took off to mid rpm's and just hung there. I killed ignition with key, and it still was going. I removed both plug wires (to try and stop it) and it STILL RAN. I then choked off air on airbox to kill it. This thing must be possesed!
What would cause this. Non adjustable carb, with CDI ignition module. All orifices were inspected, and all clean. What would cause lower plug to be wet, but top dry? Why wouldn't key switch kill the motor when it took off to a mid rpm? I am sooo frustrated with this thing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW at idle it will puff a bit of smoke (when it trys to cut out). Not constantly, just every now and then. 135psi compression both cylinders.
Here is a video of it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pi5J3TqoSKU
