82 evinrude 75 (is it worth $1000.00) give me your opinions good or bad

i have a 70 force that blew up and costs more than i want to pay to fix it. i found a 82 evinrude 75 w/tilt and trim is it worth $1000.00 or what do you think it is worth, by the way it runs good. dont know the serial or model#s

bob,<br /><br />Get compression readings. They should all be over 100 psi. and within 5-10% of each other. <br /><br />Also, check the lower unit fluid. I should be clean-not milky.<br /><br />If the engine is pristine, looks good, and the other items are OK, $1,000.00 is a decent price.

Ahoy, Bob.<br /><br />A grand seems a bit steep to me. NADA prices are worthless on 21 year old engines (they say around $340) but I would be thinking in the $600 range.<br /><br />However, if the compression checks out and she passes a demo under load for 15 or 20 minutes without bogging or heating up I would go higher.<br /><br />My reason is my opinion that the OMC triple loopers were truly great engines and ahead of the industry even as late as '82. I owned 2 of the 70HP version and they were great engines. <br /><br />Good luck.
