I,m looking at a '82 18' glasstron bowrider with a 140 hp mercruiser inboard. The boat seems to check out fine ( on the lake)no rot or scrapes on the hull and everthing works as it should. It looks almost new except for the trailer. The boat has 850 hours and the asking price is $2000. Does this seem like a fair price? Is 850 hours excessive? I have never owned a Glasstron but have always been impressed with them. This is for my son-in-law so I don't want to steer him in the wrong direction.

Big Dee, Glastron is at the top of my list since I own two '76 models. You can get info on the boat at www.classicglastron.com under the "The Years" section. I don't think 850 hours is terrible, but then again I bought my last Glastron witha locked engine (knew it and planned for rebuild). These are good solid boats in my opinion.

Big Dee,<br />I see you are from Rockingham. I am up the road from you in Concord.<br /><br />Glastron makes an excellent boat. Intrestingly enough we have friends across the cove from my folks place on Kerr Lake who have that same package - but I think the boat is an 80 or 81 but it has the 140 merc I/O. They keep it on the lake pretty much all summer but do maintian it well. It also looks new and has presented little or no problems. It is the classic brown and cream color. I believe it tops out at around 42-45 mph but that is pretty good for that haevy boat. It rides great.<br /><br />Glastron makes excellent boats and the merc power train is a solid proven performer. if the boat is in that good of shape I dont think you could go wrong. Has it had any major engine or outdrive work. If the answer is no then you may want to offer him a lower price to with that stated to see if he will take it. The boat is 20 years old and things to break. The 850 hours usage isnt out of the ball park. it equates to around 40 hours per season which isnt all that unusual.<br /><br />Best of Luck to you. Where will the boat be used at.<br /><br />Deerdog

Re: 82 glastron advice

I had a 1970 19' bow rider (outboard powered) that I bought in 75 which I beat the **** out of in south Florida with my young (at that time) family for 15 years. I did have to replace the floor and sister the stringers underneath but I had no gripes with that.

Thanks guys,<br />Deerdog, hello neigbor, the boat will be used at Lake tillery. I have owned several boats but have never kept up with the hours so I do not know the average life of a 140 that is used in fresh water. A dealer is selling this boat so I really don't know the history behind it other than it has been bought and used at this lake.<br />He was asking $2500, I will try to chisel him a little more. Maybe somebody can give some 'long hour' testemonials.

Interesting - I was fishing there not long ago near the dam. I keep my boat on Kerr Lake on teh Va-NC border. Anyway, it wouldnt hurt to try to get him down. Im sure the dealer has a price range given to him by the owner. You may go in with the line: "well yep it does run and look like new but Im sure there will be some work down the line."<br /><br />I was fishing on Badin Lake yesterday which is up the river from you.<br /><br />Good Luck<br /><br />Deerdog<br /><br />Good Luck
