'82 I/O OMC Stern Drive will not go forward any longer

We have an 82 I/O OMC Stern Drive boat that will not go forward any longer. A couple of summers ago we were out on the lake doing some fishing and all of a sudden we heard a loud clunking noise in the engine and then it stopped going forward. My husband and I are not very boat savvy when it comes to these types of things. We tried to start it last night but it will not even kick over. We have had a couple different friends look at it and they were just as clueless as us. We tried moving the crank shaft by hand last night but its not budging at all. We are afraid that it is siezed up and somehow there is water and gas mixed in with the oil?!? Any suggestions would be great. We are willing do anything except get rid of the boat?

One thing i forgot to mention is that is goes in reverse just fine.

Ayuh,... My guess is the Only way that's not happening is with a Total Refit,...
New motor, New drive....

and somehow there is water and gas mixed in with the oil?!?

'cause that sounds like a Frozen, Cracked block....

You'll need a Mechanic to diagnose what, if anything is Salvageable...

How is it possible to go in reverse when the motor doesn't turn?

first of all what size motor do you? have you might have broken a water pump shaft or a forward gear in the upper housing

I'm confused, how can the boat go in reverse if it's frozen? Is the engine running or what? Water in the oil..

Can you bar the engine over when it's in reverse?

My husband stated that when it stopped going forward when they were on the water he could get it in reverse but wouldnt go forward. Now that it has sat for couple of years now we cant even get the motor to start.

I believe it is a 3.0L 140 HP

We also found out last night that one of the Frost Plugs were missing. It was sitting in a storage unit and it looks at if there were some mice nests back by the engine. Not sure if that helps with any thing at all or not

Ayuh,... A couple of Years ago, it may have been Repairable....

Like I said, at this point Refiting the hull with Mercruiser or Volvo power is probably the Best, or Only option...

yeah- broken drive, engine wasn't winterized, engine froze and broke...

it's a pile of junk now.

you need a new engine and a new or rebuilt outdrive at the minimum

you can get a different boat (something newer, better and running) for less money
