Re: '82 Johnson 60 hp, will turn over. Won't start
Boss Hawg,
Yeap, they do. Yeah, when I first got my 70 horse power Johnson I dreaded cranking it the first time of the day because it was a real pain in the butt and sometimes I had it flooded so bad I just pulled the boat out on the trailer away from the boat dock. But then, the light came, on and I remember that the guy I bought the 70 horse Johnson from included the owners manual with it so I sat down one day and read the starting instructions both cold start and warm start and I discovered that I had been cranking it wrong, cold start, the whole time and what it was was I was not advancing the warm up lever to full up but instead was only raising it up about a quarter of the way and that is why I was flooding it and having one heck of a time cranking it. So since I have read those starting instructions I raise the warm up lever, cold start, all the way up and it fires over every single time for me now after I let it warm up for about 2 to 3 minutes then put it in reverse and back away from the trailer out into the water. So far to date no more cold starting for me and it is a pleasure knowing or question yourself will my outboard crank for me today like before I read those cold start instructions in the owners manual. LOL, you learn the hard way on doing things but the hard way you never forget.
