This is a friend of mines boat, but it has some issues. The motor was just rebuilt (blown cylinder). The motor wants to spit and cough at just above or at idle. The linkage appears to be in sync and it runs great from about 1100 rpms to 5400. The last bit of throttle does not seem to increase the speed. It will 70+ mph at 5600 RPM with a Raker 14.25 X 24 pitch prop. The main issues are the coughing and the lack of additional power for the last little bit of gas pedal (about 3/4 inch left on pedal). When it is floored, it seems to lag and no additional speed. Any assistance that you all can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Jcreech, hope this reaches you ok, Do you know of a Lorne Creech of Wachula Florida circa 1955? I was in the USAF with "Bud" for four years and miss him. My email address is jhreed@epix.net if you would like to respond that way. Thanks,
Jim Reed.

It may still be a throttle linkage issue or the side plates leaking air on the side of the carbs. Make sure the thermostats are in.

As far as the lack of power on the last of the throttle, the butterflies may be opening too far.

As for the speed -- I wouldn't change a thing. Theoretical speed is right at 69 with 0% slip. If he is over 70 I would leave it alone as its better than perfect.

Good luck!
