figured i would post back and let ya all know what the scoop is. turns out compression is way low like 25psi. pulled the cover for the intake port on the side of the cilinder and noticed that there is only one ring not the standard two. how wierd is that ever hear of loosing a ring.

My apologies to you popeye. We should have recommended that you do a compression test first thing.

Re: 82 rude 115 rough idle stalling

no worries, i beleive somone did say to do one i just didn't have my guage at the time so i tried other routes till i got it back. are there rebuild kits availible for this engine? if so anyone know of a quality low cost kit.

what are your feelings on trying to repair just that cylinder drill hone and replace rings. i know i could tear into it and find the cylinder walls all torn up but for a quick fix do you think this will work.

Repairing just one cylinder is acceptable but honing won't do it. That cylinder needs to be bored oversize and a new piston fitted. Go ahead and pull the heads and see what kind of damage you have.
