I'm thinking of purchasing a 1983 G/W with a 200 hp evinrude. Can anyone tell me about this motor it only has 900 original hrs on it.

Striper,

900 hours seems like a lot to many folks. However, I've seen "Rudes" run twice that long and more.

How does the engine look? If it is realtively corrosion free on the outside, the inside will be similar. Does it have service records?

With that kind of hours, you should be able to get a good deal. If the boat is worth repowering later, go for it. If you buy it right, anything the old Rude gives you is a gift.

The engine don't look bad but I haven't got my comp. test back yet either. The engine compartment has oil residue but I would think that is normal. Is there some things I shoold watch out for on this power plant???

Take a look at the shifter arms. Mine are rusted away to nothing.
