Before I upgraded from 6 gal to 12 gal tank engine ran like a champ.Out on lake the week before.Brand new Moeller 12 gal. new fuel line. Now engine will not stay running.Starving for fuel.I rebuilt fuel pump. I have a filter installed just before the fuel pump and it used to stay at least 1/2 way filled with fuel before.I pump the bulb and I can see the filter load up with fuel.Engine will run until fuel is gone unless I squeeze bulb.Engine does not run any better with any choke setting's. Seem's like the fuel pump is lacking any vaccum from the engine.Up till now it has been running perfectly. I'm at a loss here????

Is the new tank vented properly ???
Try it with the old tank or if not available a portable tank. (Remember to open the vent though)

Answer this way with yes or no.

Runs ok?
1)Old Tank Old line
2)Old tank New line
3)New Tank Old Line
4)New Tank New line

If 1&2 are Yes, but 3&4 are No - Something in the new Tank or Tank fitting is blocked/restricted. Could be as simple as a piece of plastic in the tank sucking to the pickup. the in tank hose could be kinked minimizing flow.

Re: 83 35hp Rude Fuel starvation

Removed float bowl nut and pumped the bulb - fuel flow's good.Tried all the different combination's with tank's / fuel line's. Then I rebuilt fuel pump. I disconnected fuel inlet to pump - pumped the bulb - nice fuel flow. I still stumped.Could it be a combination of thing's. Like I said ,the weekend before I had the boat out and she ran perfect. All I did was upgrade the tank and fuel line and now the fuel filter fill's with fuel on initial pump but there is no steady flow. When the fuel is gone in the filter that's it.Even tried disconnecting the filter.Still can't figure. I tried to find a detailed breakdown of the pump itself.Nothing out there.I put it back together the same way but who know's.I'm not the original owner so . Hey it ran before ????? I'm stumped ! Cylinder vaccuum not manipulating the pump ???
