Hello

I have an 83 Evinrude 15 Hp that for the last few times out would be difficult to turn the throttle handle to slow down. I had to use both hands and twist very hard. If I lifted the handle end about half way the handle would turn. Throttling up was not a problem. Last night however, a few of the "teeth" on the coupler piece between the handle and motor broke off, leaving me at full speed driving in circles until the carb ran out of fuel.
My question is what could be causing the "stiffness" and also where could I purchase some of the replacement pieces for the handle coupler.

Thanks
Josh

Re: 83 Evinrude won't slow down

sounds like the gear teeth in the middle of the tiller handle, where it hinges, are too tight. on my old one you can adjust this by loosening the screw on the gear at the motor end of the tiller arm and pushing in a little on the rod that goes through the arm. When you lift the arm up 90* on mine you can see the middle gears, that's attachted to the rod i speak of. When i did this, adjustment was very critical, and it was easy to get it too tight or too loose.

I'll try that.

Any idea where I can get a new gear from?

Thanks
