83 johnson 2 stroke starting problems

Hey guys need some help here. I took my boat out this morning and had one hell of a time starting it. I pump the primer bulb and maybe 4 out of 10 times I try I can get it to stay firm. It feel like there is air in the line and its not getting gas to the motor. And when I do get it started it wont stay on very long before cutting off. Any suggestions on where I should start. It seems like a fuel problem but im not sure. Thanks

Check to see if its leaking anywhere when you a pumping. Then pull the hose off the fuel pump and put your thumb on that. if it firms up then then check all the lines after that to carb and solenoid

One other thing you may need to bleed a bit of air out of the fuel line at the beginning by letting a bit of petrol out past your thumb just to check you dont get air being compressed in the line.If its still soft after bleeding, the hoses near the motor where they turn a lot can get cracks.

is your tank vented properly? i agree that you should closely inspect the fuel line on the tank side of the bulb, if its cracked replace all, and dont rule out the pickup in the tank.

I dont mean to butt in but i think he means the tube in the tank that goes down into the fuel where it is sucked up from

i had one, that was sucking air from that tube in the tank, easy to diagnose tho, just remove the connecter from the tank end of the line, and put the open end of the line directly into the fuel through the gas cap hole.
