83 johnson electric start

[aprilrose]

j25elctd model single lever w/key and choke in controller. had throttle and idle problems,new cable tighten idle arm (linkage) reinstall, start up fine turn key off engine keeps running ? back at motor to choke to stop from running. open and close control box really not messing w/electrical? what does a friction lever do? any help out there? happy 4th in drydock!!! can't shut down with the key ???

You may have broken off the kill wire from the keyswitch inside the box.Or the keyswitch is bad.When you shut the key off,you provide ground to the powerpack.It should be a black wire with a white tracer.Be sure all the switch wires are ok.Or you may have broken the wire at the engine side ,the large harness might have issues ,but I think its something you did while working .

mikesea,ty for quick reply. black wire 1-to small block no white tracer on it ,could or should there be a second wire from this little block ,looks like maybe so? but don't see loose wire anywhere. if 2,where would they lead to? harness and ?? this little block I call it,sits between ingnition (key) cluster , (block) then friction lever spring tensioner. thanks from cadet status!

I think I have it now this is the johnson that I cannot shut down with the key any idea ?
