I have a 1983 Merc 2 cylinder Outboard. I have not taken it out yet this year but did have it running this spring. Today it would not start. I chased one issue down to no spark on one cylinder. Cylinder #1 has a good strong consistent spark . #2 sparks every once in a while or not at all.
I switched plugs, coils and plug wires with the same results.
Do the symptons sound like a bad switch box or sould I be looking elsewhere?
I don't mind throwing new parts at it but it looks like a new switch box is $100 plus.
Just incase it is related I was prevously having issues with bogging down at WOT. Trying to fix that I have put in new fuel filter, rebuilt the fuel pump, cleaned the carbs with no change. I have installed a new fuel line and bulb but have not yet tested it on the water yet.
Appreciate your ideas,
Dave
