84 115 merc not peeing

finally got running after a few years & noticed right away that no water from tell tale. No water is coming out of the water jacket fitting that supplies the tell tale. When i removed the water hose & muffs found couple dozen large dead ants in the water intake. Any tips on cleaning the water passages from intake to water jacket exit?

If you have an air compressor you can blow air through the water lines. My engine had set for about 8 years before I started trying to get it back up and running this year. The water pressure wasn't that great but came back after a quick shot of air.

Let it run for at least 20-30 seconds after cleaning the telltale. Mine don't start peeing for about 20 seconds. I changed my impeller and gaskets for no reason because of this.

check your P hole.

Get a small piece or wire and feed it up in there. Sometimes the mud dobbers plug it off there.

Also I can't stress enough about keeping your impeller changed.

If it's been a while you should either get a service manual and do it yourself or take it to a shop and have it done. It's bad news when they have already failed.

Too much kidneystones in the passage Get a fishing steel/copper leader wire (sold at Academy for few bucks) and clear the peehole first. If the water still doesn't come out, it's time to inspect the impeller. If the impeller is good, check thermostat.
