motor started okay the first couple of times. Then the starter get stuck in the start position. After disconnecting the batt and get the starter back in the normal position and hooking the batt back up the starter would start running by it's self even with the key off. I disconnected the ground wire from the starter. This is how i started the motor the rest of the day. Touch the ground wire to the starter and it would start. After a few times doing this it went back to normal of having to use the key to start it. So what do i need to prepare for. I know it did just not fix itself.

sounds like the starter solenoid is stuck, chase the wire from the starter to find it, unhook the battery then disconnect the wire that runs from the starter, reconnect the battery use a test light and see if you have power at both ends with the key off. if you do replace the solenoid.

Disconnect large red cable from battery terminal.
Disconnect small red wire from starter solenoid
Reconnect large red cable to battery terminal, if starter motor starts, replace solenoid. If not continue on next step
Touch the small red wire to the starter solenoid small post (where it was before), if starter motors starts, check or replace ignition sw
