Hi all
I am working on a friends "new" old 1984 35hp Johnson, I have done a lot of work to this motor & every time I get one thing fixed something else goes wrong. I have replaced the starter solinoid, I allso replaced all the engine wiring (It was all "rotten") Thought I had it all fixed, and then he calls saying it won't start, I found a stuck needle valve in the carb. It then ran for two trips, now he calls me & tells me "it's slipping" (In gear @ near full throttle boat slows down) I've had a couple of Mercury lower ends apart before & found a parts picture of the Johnson online & they look basicly the same. I see nothing that would "slip" It's all splined & keyed gears that wouldn't slip, well not without a bunch of noise I would assume.
Anybody ever dealt with something like this?
Thanks
Steve

Check for a "spun" prop hub motor revving and going nowhere. Mark the hub and the prop then run the engine and see if the two marks are still lined up. If not then it's prop shop time.

Well duh! That sounds like the problem. I didn't even think of that. Thanks for the reply Will, I will check that when I get a chance to look at her.
