84 40 hp. thermostat

I have a 1984 40hp. johnson Seahorse, and I can't seem to locate the thermostst housing. Could someone be so kind to tell me where its located? Thank You much!

There is a flat plate on the side of the moter that the hose comes out of that spits the water out. Is the thurmostat under that plate? and is a gasket required when replaceing it? I'ld get a repair manual for it, but I don't plan on keeping it for long.

Hi willowcat<br /><br />The head cover is on the same elevation as your spark plugs. As the name suggests, it sits on the front of your cylinder head.
