84 60hp evinrude cooling problems.

New impeller in August of last year. Good stream at idle. About 3000rpm stream weakens and almost stops if I go any higher. Alarm will go off If i run it above 3000rpm. Any ideas.

Sounds like a leak somewhere. Possibly a bad grommet/connection. Only way to find out is to drop the L/U and have a look.

Dropped the LU took pump apart and put back together. Every thing looked fine. Hooked hose directly to tube and got a steady stream. Blew air through both ends. Back on the water same thing. Good strong stream at idle up till about 3000rpm and pressure drops. Is it possible the key is slipping? Not really sure what else to check.

Have you checked the lower unit intake for debris/partial blockage?

Yes, thats the first thing i looked for. What is puzzling me is that sitting still up to about 3000k i have a strong tell tale and I read about 5psi on gauge. Over that and tell tale weakens and psi drops to almost 0. It seems like the more wake the motor gets the weaker it gets. It worked great all last summer though.

Ok, didnt see it mentioned anywhere so thought i'd run it by ya ....i assume you checked the entire intake then right up to the base of the pump and not just the screens?

When you say "it worked great all last summer".....was this before or after you changed the impeller?

I changed the impeller in February of last year and it was fine all of last year. Took it out last night. If I tilted the motor a little ( leveled it out with boat) it pumped much better. Still not full stream, but alarm didnt sound and head temp stayed around 140. Tilted it back down and lost pressure. What would cause this?

Do you have anything on the bottom of your boat creating some kind of water turbulance? New depth finder or something?

I havent added anything, but that does seem to be the problem.
