84 Evinrude 60 hp gauge questions

I have recently aquired a 84 60hp Evinrude and would like to add a temp gauge and water pressure gauge. There is an empty bolt hole just above and to the right of the upper sparkplug. Is this were the sender screws into or is this missing a bracket? If this is the hole for temp sender where do i find what size sender? I see the water pressure kits that come with sender and hose. What is involved with installing this kit? I also can not find the relay for the t/t unit. Are these usually located inside the motor? Are two relays required?

The temperature sender is a variable resistance device that requires a solid ground and good contact with the cylinder head. The sender must match the gauge, so it is best that they (gauge and sender) be purchased as a kit.

The kits have instructions for installation, but they generally follow the pattern of the teleflex instructions here: http://www.downloadingfiles.co.uk/teleflexfiles/gauges/Outboards.pdf

If there is no threaded installation point in the face of the cylinder head, it is best to use the Z bracket as shown, with a cylinder head bolt.

There are two types of temp senders and regardless which one you use it must match the gauge. These are resistance elements and typically vary from 40 - 240 ohms depending on temperature. If your engine does not have a threaded port that reaches into the water jacket you can still use either type of sender. The threaded style can be screwed into a "Z" shaped bracket that bolts to the head and then the end of the sender touches the head. The other type simply mounts under a cylinder head bolt.

Here is an example of a threaded sensor installed in 75 Merc. The end of the sender contacts water in the water jacket.

Here is a cylinder head temp sender that installs under a head bolt and merely contacts the cylinder head.
