Hey guys, I have an '84 Evinrude 50 model # E50BELCRM and i finally found a manual. The problem is that it shifts in forward and drives great but when i shift into reverse there is just gears clicking and not meshing. The shift rod length is to spec and problem still persists. I talked to a guy who said you can remove the shift rod and cover to get into the gear case from the top rear without pulling out the bearing housing and remove the forward gear and inspect the clutch dog and gear etc. I have never dealt with one of these before and was wondering if this is something a guy without special tools could tear into or take it to my buddy's retired OMC mechanic and let him take care of it. Any help would be appreciated. Sorry for the lengthiness. Thanks.
