We can only offer instructions, most have been given??
When you rewire the blue leads, it gave you spark again.Did it give you spark at the right time?
Without seeing it? The description is just like looking at spaghetti with your eyes closed?
The colors and connections don't make sense?Hope you understand that??
If you have the wiring diagram on the motor.Maybe cut the connectors and install your own?
Carbs at 1 turn out and leave there for now.
Check the static timing and see if it's moved?
The linc and sinc don't worry about the rpms?
Make sure the 3 carbs all operate as 1

Re: '84 Force 85 hp only firing on 2cyl

Well... It continues and I'm still at a total loss. Another long drive to the lake to test this motor results in nothing further. This time I went to walmart and picked up a new primer bulb, and some new quicksilver oil. I used a regular old 5 gal gas can, got new gas and dropped a temporary pick up tube in. Nothing has changed, but at least I have completely eliminated the fuel system. I also pulled the prop, checked for obstruction and marked the hub, just in case it was maybe slipping a little. It wasn't.
With the motor in the water, I popped the throttle arm off the linkage. It will rev great all the way to the top. All the linkage engages everything fully, but in gear, it just will not get over the top.
Sort of dumping a bunch of cash at this thing and maybe buying new cd boxes and /or coil packs, I don't know where to turn next. Don't know if anyone has any further thoughts or not...
At this point, it looks like I'll have to try and borrow a boat for our weeks vacation.

Thanks

Re: '84 Force 85 hp only firing on 2cyl

One more time, but this time I think I have it... Maybe
Hooked back up to the muffs tonight, and started rechecking everything, ohmed out the stator again, checked spark again... No spark on #2 again! Move some stuff around and get it back. Then #3 goes down. Grrrr...
Probably not the safest thing to do, but at this point, I'm willing to sacrifice a finger or two to get this damn thing running again- I pulled the coil/cdi plate off and let it dangle. I have already changed out the plugs to nice heavy duty connectors, so I began swapping stuff and rewiring stuff. With the motor running, I can get one of the two boxes to only kick a tiny spark sometimes, making the engine pick up. I tried wiggling every single wire on the motor while it was running, and I can't force a failure/connection. It seems very random when it wants to send that signal to the coil. I rewired, reconfigured everything several times and now have the ability to kill spark at whichever cylinder I wish. The orange on this pack is totally dead, and the red gives that glimmer of hope now and again.

Long and short, I had spark at a time to make me think it was fine, but especially under load, it doesn't keep it up. I'm betting it's been failing for awhile, which may explain the extra coilpacks that the previuos owner had in the boat.

Anybody a know good one they will sell?

Thanks for listening

All this part buying and still no tach? Knowing the real RPMs is a real help.

Well, I do certainly agree that a tach in necessary, but if it wont run first, isn't it kinda moot? I haven't even started the process of figuring out what it takes to add one. As for parts, up to this point, all I really have is time in it. I'm still well under $100. I know that I now need the spark box tho to be able to tune it.

Thanks

When I needed to replace mine I was able to find one at a local boat salvage yard pretty cheap.
If you dont have one local they can be found on ebay pretty reasonable.

Look into "tiny tack", Not a budget buster and nobrainer to use.
