Re: 84 Johnson seahorse 70hp starting issues

I think that I have the fixed jets. The only thing that makes me say that is I'm struggling to find something to adjust. When the carbs are all together... there's really only 1 screw that can be turned.

If the screw you're speaking of is a regular but fairly long slotted screw that has a red washer in back of it, that is a plug type screw (not adjustable). A slow speed jet exists way in back of it.

With the carburetor off, float chamber removed, the top portion of the carburetor turned upside down... you'll see a very small diameter brass tube that is off center within the larger brass high speed nozzle. That small brass tube is the fuel passageway to the slow speed jet. It must be very clean for the fuel to flow freely.

The high speed jet in horizontally located in the center bottom portion of the float chamber, way in back of the float chamber drain plug. That also must be perfectly clean as fuel must flow thru it before the fuel can gain passage to any other fuel passageway.

Very good description of the situation!

I might need to clean the jet behind the drain plug for the bowl? I'll make sure I do that. The others should be clean.

I'll let you know what happens tomorrow and thank you so much for your time and advice.

Hey,

turns out... I had 2 of the floats upside down. What a tard eh? After putting the floats the correct way and adjusting the level... I took it out to the lake today and it ripped it up. Ran like a champ!

I sincerely appreciate all the help and hope I won't need it in the near future. :)

right :) Took her out on Sunday for Father's Day. Launched at Zittles marina in the sound sound and ran all the way up to the narrows bridge in Tacoma. Only had issues with the fuel delivery. Something in the lines is causing the engine to starve at times. It wasn't much of an issue, but I'll look into it and see what's going on. Might need some new fuel lines or fittings.

Happy Father's Day

Re: 84 Johnson seahorse 70hp starting issues

Back again :)

Here's a question for the pros:

I take the boat out and once she's cleared her throat...the engine runs very nice. If I stop the engine to fish for a half hour or so and start her up again... she bogs a bit when I throttle her up. I push the throttle to full and it doesn't respond immediately. It takes about 20 seconds for something to clear up and she's hitting WOT no problem. If I back it off at this point and then jam on the throttle I have no issues. It's only after it sits for 20-30 minutes that I have to let her clear something up before WOT can be reached normally.

any thoughts? It's a fuel delivery problem I'm assuming, but I wonder if anyone has come across it.

Thanks,
