The party stated that he is not near a machine shop.--He can do this at home for virtually no cost.----Some folks take pride in that.

I'm not near a machine shop either and I don't waste my time trying to hand lap cylinder heads. $12 in a priority mailer to the shop. $50 to cut them and $12 back.

As you can see he's tired of wasting his time too...

I finally got the heads flat!

The technique worked but to say the least it was an awful lot of work.

I did the first head using valve grinding compound exclusively.
I think it was about 15 hours of *hard* work.

I learned a few things about it.

I did this for the 2nd head:
First, I used 2 -- 4" X 24" 120 grit -- sanding belts cut & taped to my glass surface.
I used this (after discussion above) and knocked the 2nd head down to almost flat in about a 1/2 hour.
I used the compound to finish the job, knocking down the 120 grit to smooth.

I had to learn how to use the compound: too dry & it cakes up in the holes of the head, too wet and you can't grind.
I kept extra wet compound on the edges of my work to work it in as needed.

You guys told me before I sent the block to get bored to get the heads decked too.
I didn't listen - hey ya live and ya learn - .

For this case I'm glad I learned how to do it like this and it did work out better than taking it to a machine shop.
For future reference. . . -> get the heads decked!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks again guys . . .
