Hi all,

I'm new to motorboats in general, but I bought myself a 16ft ski boat with an '84 inline-4 140hp mercruiser. I drained the water from the engine last winter after I bought it, and I think I missed a step this spring. When the engine is running, water pours out of one of the drain point low on the port side of the engine. A picture is attached that shows water coming out when the engine is just a bit over idle.

The valve is turned tight clockwise, but the center of the valve is obviously not stopping the water at all. Am I missing a part that is supposed to be part of that assembly? I'm sure it's something stupid, but it would be a great help if someone could tell me how stupid I am and what is wrong with it.

Thanks so much

Wow, that exceeded my expectations for a stupidly simple mistake. That's not the first time something reverse threaded has thrown me for a loop, and I'm sure it won't be the last. Man, I really tightened (loosened) that as well as I could once I saw I had a leak. An excellent lesson to stop and think about things for a moment at the beginning of the season.

Thanks very much for the quick reply, the boating world has been great to me already.

Don't feel bad, that drain petcock goes against everything logical in a Man's world, like normally "Righty tighty, Lefty loosey" It must be designed by a woman :D
Oops, I didn't say that,,, You didn't hear that from me  I don't know how the words got there  Geez, I hope ladyfish is not looking
