That design looks good, but it will be a pain in the butt to sew it yourself. If you are having a shop do it, then I say it would look great.

Does anyone know a better way to remove vinyl pinstriping than with a hair dryer and razor blade? I've been working on removing the pinstripes for too long. Also, what grit sandpaper should I use to prep for primer?

I remeber someone posting about a drill attachment that removed vinyl. I believe it was like a big eraser or something. Rubbing alcohol has always worked for me, especially on the residue. Can't answer the sandpaper question though, sorry.

Thanks for the reply. I did see that 3M Stripe Off eraser thing after I wrote my last post. I called around and looked at several places trying to find one and nobody had them. I looked at Pep Boys, Autozone, O'Reilys, Sherwin-Williams automotive division, Lowe's, and Home Depot. I guess I'll just do it with a blow dryer. By the time I have one shipped, I could already have it done.

Tonight I got busy removing the pinstriping. Boy what a pain in my arse. This boat had 11 pinstripes on each side. Rediculous. We ended up getting about 3/4 of it off. That's all for tonight.

Even got my wife to lend me a hand, and a good hand she was.

Haha! She asks me fairly often if there's anything she can do to help, but she knows I'll say no. This time I let her get all she wanted. I bet she don't ask again. We got all the pinstripes and adhesive off though.

Check out what's behind the bow seat backs. I have no idea what's goin on here. I guess the guy just started drillin holes til he hit the right spot. Weird. The seats were attached with those little plastic push in keepers. I don't know what you call em. Anyway, I thouht this was odd. Later.

Hey if we connect the dots, I can see a turtle!! :D

You also forgot to mention you sealed the bench seat and sun deck and did some work on the motor mounts while I finished the pinstriping/glue.

You boat is really look great! I am really impressed with your wood working skills..gonna be a great summer for you guys!
I haven't tried the eraser attachment, and I heard it works really well. However, I have tried all sorts of products for removing the adhesive that is left behind once you rip up the vinyl. Goo Gone..industrial strength stuff..ect ect. The best stuff I have ever used is wd-40. Spray it on there, leave it for a minute or so..and they scrape it with a razor blade..comes off really easy.

Keep it going..Almost there!

I would see what the paint manufacturer says about the grit. It varies a lot from paint to paint.

Lay the pipe down, unplug the drill, and back away from the boat. J/K Looks like someone, or several someones have tried attaching a cushion there.

Lol, yall are funny. I've just been preparing all the panels and seat backs so I can finally get them out for upholstery. Unfortunately, every sinlgle piece of upholstered wood had to be remade, but they weren't so bad that I couldn't use them for templates. After I got all the wood cut, I sealed them with polyurethane. I think it's all ready for the upholstery and I hope to get it out tomorrow. I also poured a little foam under the deck. Just cut some holes with a hole saw, poured the foam, and peanut buttered the holes back in.

I'm still not 100% sure what the final upholstery design will be. I'm going to sleep on it tonight and also see what the upholsterer has to say. We'll finalize tomorrow. You guys will just have to wait and see ;)
