The color is nasty but it's a really deep, roomy, nicely shaped hull. Would be a shame to cut it up. Lots of people don't know about the 470. Clean it up and try to sell it for $1500 saying it needs floor work. Maybe someone will offer you 750-1000. Can't hurt to try. I personally don't see a lot of value to be added to your life by restoring it. Too similar to your Wellcraft. Multiple boats is best done with hulls that have differing uses :D

Thanks man. I see what your sayin. I have given some thought to making it a fishing rig. Coated deck, casting deck with swivel seat in bow, casting deck over the engine, rod holders, stuff like that. Heck, if I'm going to do that, I might as well just sell it and get a fixer upper pontoon huh. Reckon I could make any dough fixing it then selling? Probably not.

I bet someone will pick it up....they are nice hulls. Small but very functional and roomy for the size. Might be a fun little boat to upgrade to a 4.3....might need to check on the weight for that however :D

Ummm that would be a wild ride....probably a short one but a wild one! A little paint would do her wonders, the lines are good....the colors are just dated.

Yes dated is right. I swear everything from this era is brown and tan. Ah come on, a heavy ol' 19ft boat can handle a 383 no prob.

I don't remember my neighbors being that big or heavy....maybe that one is a larger model than his.

Haha! Good call ltjag101. I need to make a sleeper out of it. The big brown blob doing 70 would be quite a sight.

Man, it's been way too long since my last post. I've had a lot going on keeping me away from working on the boat. I finally got back to it today. I worked on cutting the wood for the dash and bow seating supports. I tried to take pics, but my camera batteries went dead. I'll take some tomorrow when I get further along. I need to paint sometime, but I find myself a bit nervous. I've never done this kind of painting before.

I love the interior. I would really like to see any more pics you might have of the rear seat assembly. Do you have a flickr or photobucket acct with more pics on it?

If you see a Chris Craft Lancer with the exact same rear bench and sunpad please don't be mad.:)

Re: '84 Wellcraft Repairs and Paint

I'm glad you like 'em Chadsci. I looked back through my pics, and I have pretty much put all the pics I have in the thread. I'd take some more, but everything is at the upholsterers now.

Speaking of that, I paid a visit to the upholstery shop today and was happy to see that he had all the bow seating and the side panels done. All he lacks is the bench seat and engine cover. Should only be another week or two.

Today I put a layer of fiberglass cloth over the whole deck, finished cutting the supports for the bow seats and dashes, and cut the holes for the transom assembly. For the transom holes, I used my router with a plunge base and a 1/2 in. forstner bit. I just clamped the router to the transom and plunged right through. That seemed like easiest way to get a perfectly straight hole. That's all for today.

Re: '84 Wellcraft Repairs and Paint

I didn't get much done on the boat today. I had to run up to the big town to get some paint matched to my gelcoat. I have talked before about painting over the brown with crimson, but I also have to do some painting on the top edge of the boat around the back where I removed some railing. I will not be using the railing, because it gets in the way when you hang your legs off the side and back. Now I have to fill the screw holes and paint them. I also spent a good while cleaning up the shop and blowing out as much dust as I could to get ready for painting and laid some plastic down. I guess I'm gonna try to do some sanding and shoot the primer tomorrow.

While I had the boat out of the shop for cleaning, I snapped some shots of her from a distance. All the shots in my thread are in the shop and there's not enough room to get a good look at her. She's a lot nicwer looking craft out in the open. Also another shot of the dash and bow seating supports after I got it all in place.

Good luck on the primer! I'm ready to see some paint on her! Nice Oklahoma red mud accents on the trailer :D The video is pretty funny, Chloe is going to be mad when you plug up that hole! Buck found a good way to get in and out of Miss Morgan, he gives me that, "Hey, pick me up and put me in there look"!

Major bummer dudes. No primer got sprayed today:( I had too much going on today so I didn't get to it. I put off mowing the lawn as long as I could, but I had to do it today and I had to go apply for a passport for my upcoming trip to Scotland. All I was able to do is some sanding and then gave it a good washing. No more Oklahoma red mud Arch :D I'm back on night shift tonight, but I'm gonna try to get some more done in the mornings when I get home, no matter how tired I am. Gotta get this thing out of my cousin's shop so he can start working on that '57 Chevy you can see in the corner in some of my pics under an inch of my my grinding dust.

Man, you are making some good progress and doing good work. I think I am going to use your idea for using the plung router to drill the holes for the stern drive. The deck looks great, and I like the looks of the boat without the pinstripes.

I always like to keep a nice yard, but I'm about break out the Round-Up and kill it dead so it can't cut into boat time anymore.

Re: '84 Wellcraft Repairs and Paint

Since Archbuilder was making fun of the nice coat of mud that was all over the trailer and boat, I had to give her a wash. Actually I wanted to give her a nice wash before I prepped for paint. Hmm, brown don't look so bad when it's shiny.

100_1468.jpg

Then I took her in for some sanding. I need to jack it up or something so I can get to the part that's blocked by the trailer fender. I'm afraid I won't be able to make the paint look good there if I don't.

These are the screw holes that I need to patch and paint over. Won't be using the railing that was there before. I think I will add some anti-skid additive to the paint and go along the top edge from behind the windshield and around the back. My brother-in-law got a nice gash in his foot last summer when he stepped onto the gunnel and slipped right into the cleat while boarding. Safety first right :)
