Re: '84 Wellcraft Repairs and Paint

Thanks for the compliments guys. That was the first paint job I've ever done, and it wasn't too difficult. I was very nervous before I pulled that trigger, but once I got a coat on her, it was no big deal. Ircustom, just spend some time doing the prep right, do a good job taping, and use quality materials and it'll come out lookin good. I used Nason Ful-Cryl II by Dupont, with a $50 gravity feed HVLP gun, and it went on awesome.

Well I sent my son and a million dollars to Wyotech so he is goin to paint when the time comes. He says he's using a gravity gun. I just hope I spent my money well on his education in the painting world.

Valid point sir! But the mrs will just go to the lake without me whenever she feels like it:( She left me at work last weekend and went to Eufaula to play on my dad's boat with the rest of my family. She's a mean woman. That's just cruel.

Re: '84 Wellcraft Repairs and Paint

BBO,
You mentioned Eufaula and I gotta know.... Is it the best lake in the known universe? I make the trip every year to Missouri and my first fuel stop is the Loves at Eufaula. Then over the lake of pannaramic beauty to the State park exit and I hear "Left turn clyde" and I keep going. I do not know anyone who has fished it or boated on that lake, you are the first. Tell me that this year Table Rock And Norfolk can wait this is a better lake. It's half the distance and the fishing is better tell me please. I will not be ready to splash the Sea Ray But I am looking for new waters and when you mentioned it in your post I had to ask.

Thanks
LR

Well, I don't know if it's the best lake in the universe, but I certainly like it. I have never boated on Table Rock or Norfolk, but there certainly some nice lakes that are closer. Texoma is a nice big lake as well and I think Grand Lake O' the Cherokees is beautiful lake and it would be a little closer than Missouri. Actually, Archbuilder who has just rebuilt that beautiful Nescher ski boat, has a place at Eufaula. I haven't done any fishing there yet, so I don't know much about that, but I have some relatives that have crappie fished there for years every summer and as far as I know they tear 'em up. Texoma is world reknown for the striper fishin. Anyway, I'd say yes, Missouri can wait. I think we have some lakes here in Oklahoma that will be well worth your time.

Re: '84 Wellcraft Repairs and Paint

Thanks for the info. I have been to the Grand Lakes and Texoma but did not fish many years ago. Eufaula is so much closer than my 30 year traditional trip that your mention of it got me to thinkin and grinnin. So maybe I might just do it this year. Thanks for the shout back on it.
So lets get back to the boat building!

Re: '84 Wellcraft Repairs and Paint

Today I put a non-skid coating on the top edge of the gunnel. Turned out pretty nice. I used the same Nason paint as the red except I had it matched to the gelcoat. I just rolled on a coat, then sprinkled some non-skid additive on the wet coat, let it tack then rolled on two more coats. Maybe now nobody will slip when getting in and out.

Then I did a little more work on the engine mounts. They weren't quite wide enough before, so the engine would barely catch the edge of them. I just added 3/4 to each of them. I plan on getting them glassed in tomorrow.

I also had a question concerning the swivel shaft on the outdrive. I noticed that there was grease all over the pivot point where the shaft is attached. Is that how it's supposed to be or has someone blown out a seal with too much grease? Here are some pics. Let me know if I need to replace something please.

Looking good BBO. By the way I think I can get you a pass that will let you over on the non-married side of the island....I have pull like that you know !

Ircustom, Eufaula is a good size lake (102,000 acres) with lots of fishing if that is what your after. My neighbor told me last week he has 215 pounds of catfish fillets from fishing last month! The bass and crappie fishing is also great. Tinkiller is also a really pretty lake, smaller but nice water.

All I got done today was glassing in the motor mounts. Oh, I also realized I had run a deck screw through the bottom of the hull, so I had to fix that too. Oops.

Pretty darn close jesus. I guess if you ever have any questions about your boat, I ought to be able to answer them. :)
