Re: '84 Wellcraft Repairs and Paint

Hi Big and Mrs BoatinOkie!!!

I just read through the whole thread....wow you're doing a fantastic job, the deck looks so awsome with all that new wood in there....really great job on the transom too...

Did you seats new upholstery come in? (no pics)

and is that pinstripe tape or paint stripes on the trailer? (cause sticker stripes are alot harder to get off using a heat gun ESPECIALLY if they are antique and cracked every inch or so when pulling em' off ) ask me how I know that lol

painting over painted stripes sure is easier! I hope it's paint.... I bet that red color would look sweet on the trailer

You Oklahoma folks are OK hehehhe seems like ya'll have these gianormous workshops AND ....= My kind of people! lol

Might wanna clip Chloes nails before 1rst splash (holes in new upholstry = bummer) ehhehhe

That Red looks great! you are making fast headway toward splashtime.....few more weeks and you should be done! Keep on a rockin you two! :D

Re: '84 Wellcraft Repairs and Paint

Thanks for your compliments Vegas! You did a fine job on your's as well. I'm a little jealous of you havin your boat in the water already, but your right, I should be only a couple of weeks away.

My upholstery has indeed come in. Nobody really said anything about them so far, so I thought I might be able to slip by on on the pics until I got it all in the boat. Looks like you caught me.

I believe the pinstripe on the trailer is sticker type, and I also know a thing or two about that stuff. The boat had 11 pinstripes on it, and they all came off very painfully. I had to get the Mrs. to help me with it, or I was going to start throwing stuff all over the shop in frustration. I plan to paint it sometime, but I will probably wait til sometime after the splash.

I wish that shop was mine, but it actually belongs to my cousin. He's been very kind letting my keep my boat in there for like 5 months now. You are right about alot of Okies having big shops. We have a lot of room for that kind of stuff around here because we don't have to huddle up in cities like you folks out in the desert. :D

Re: '84 Wellcraft Repairs and Paint

Well I think I found a good cheaper alternative to teak for anyone who may be interested. My mom works for a company called Atlantic-Meeco who builds dock systems worldwide. She told me about a wood called Ipe (pronounced ee-pay) that her company uses for the decking on their docks. It has characteristics similar to teak which makes it good for use in a wet environment and it's much cheaper. I plan to use this to build a swim platform for my boat, and the cost for the wood is $97, and that's including a couple extra boards for good measure. I just thought I'd share this with anyone who has been searching for a suitable alternative to teak. When I get the material, I will post some pics.

Ipe is great stuff, we have used it for outdoor furniture. Vegas we do like our shops....and our lakes! You should bring Jezabel out sometime and try them out! So any prediction on splash dates BBO?

Arch, I'm shooting for a trial run on the 23rd of June. I have to work that next weekend, so maybe July 4th weekend it'll be ready for a full blown weekend of fun. And just in time for the busiest freakin weekend of the summer, yay. <--sarcasm

Nice paint work and yep, we want to see those seats.

Do you guys ever haul to Lake Eufaula? I driven across that lake 100s of times and I'm always amazed at how massive it is. It seems to go on for 60+ miles with little to no development.

Or how about Tenkiller? That's a beautiful area.

I know you guys are a ways West of there. What's your favorite lakes?

Re: '84 Wellcraft Repairs and Paint

Clockwatcher, we do almost all of our boating at Eufaula, and yes it's pretty darn massive. Streches nearly 40 miles along highway 69, it's quite a sight isn't it. My parents live just south of the town of Eufaula, so that's where we congregate on the weekends. As mentioned before, Archbuilder boats there as well and has a lake house there. We've been talking about having a Texas/Oklahoma iboaters meet up somewhere soon and I was figuring on Texoma being the logical choice, but you're the second Texan to ask about Eufaula this week so maybe we ought to do it there. I've had my eye on Grand Lake for a while now and we're having a fimily reunion there Labor Day weekend. I've heard it's very nice.

Anywho, I was able to prime the transom and bilge last night and put a boat of Bilgekote on tonight. Unless I'm mistaken, I'd say she's dang near ready for an engine! And I'll get yall some upholstery pics soon.

You got your weeks mixed up again  Your working on Wens the 23rd.

Lets shoot for that weekend of June 25-26 for splashdown, then luckily your working July 4th weekend so we can skip that, then come back for some fun July 10-11!! :D

Good call. Lol! My wife knows when I'm working and I don't. I forgot my work schedule is going to be screwed up next week, so I think maybe the 28th or 29th would be more reasonable for splash.

Not to be a perfectionist, but you forgot your motor mounts, just saying.

Looks like it is coming together pretty quick know. Splash down should be pretty soon. Eufaula is a nice lake, I plan on being there 4th of July weekend, especially since I missed Memorial weekend. I have family that lives there, and several friends that have property around the lake. Keep moving forward and before long you will be out there speeding across that lake.

That's hilarious! I didn't realize the motor mounts are sitting on a board right above the engine in the picture. You mean I was supposed to bolt the engine down?

You must be loco if you want to be there on Memorial and the 4th. Those are the worst 2 weekends of the season to me. But I'm always on the hunt for glass, and glass is nowhere to be found with that many boats on the water. But hey, to each his own right.:) That's cool that you go to Eufaula, maybe we'll see ya 'round sometime. Really though, I'd be there on the 4th too if I didn't have to work, just trying to make myself feel better about not being able to go;)

BTW Bacafrog, since you have a bike in your avatar and you have BACA in your name, that would lead me to conclude that you are a biker, is that right.

Re: '84 Wellcraft Repairs and Paint

Yes, you would be correct about the biker. The woman in my avatar is my wife. That was a photo shoot for the BACA Nation radio show that my step dad is part owner of. Right now I am not a member of BACA anymore, but hope to be again when I have less stress in my life.

It is not about wanting to be there on those weekends, its just thats when all my friends that own property there will be there. Its cheaper to stay on their property then to get a motel for my family. Usually when we are down there we just float around with all of the boats and enjoy the view. We might be down there on the 20th of this month, but that depends on if my buddy gets is yamaha motor in or not. He has one of those twin engine yamaha jet boats and one of the motors blew on him, the replacement motor they sent was bad, and now the motors are on back order. We will probably be down there several times this season, but it all depends on to much to say yeah or nay right now.

Cool Baca. Is your step dad one of the four horseman? If you need less stress, I can't think of anything less stressful than cruisin on two wheels with your knees in the breeze:cool: Well, If you make it to Eufaula, give us a shout. We usually hang out near No. 9 Marina/Longtown Creek sometimes over by the dam. Heck if you ever wanted to, we could hook up and ride bikes out to the lake or something. It's a pretty good ride down hwy 9.

Re: '84 Wellcraft Repairs and Paint

Caveman is my step-father. I remember when the radio show was web based and being brodcast out of a house. Right know I don't have a scoot. I sold it due to the engine about to blow up, but I hope to buy another one eventually.

To be honest I have little to no knowledge of Eufaula. We went down there last year for the first time since I was a child. Know that we have a boat I hope to change all of that.

I now conclude the high jacking of this thread. Get back to work and get us some more pics. I love looking at the pictures that everyone takes while restoring boats. I have learned a lot just from watching and reading these threads.

Don't worry about hijacking. It's my thread and you can talk about whatever you want. :) I don't have time to work on my boat much during my work week anyway, so I like to just talk about whatever. If you'll notice, there will usually be 7 days in a row where I post progress every night, then 7 days of just chit-chat. That's my work schedule 7 on and 7 off. Too bad about your scooter, better get another one.

I haven't seen you on the forum so I was checking to see if you have survived the big rain that hit your backyard Monday. News pictures don't look good. Chime in when you can and let us know.
