Sorry I couldn't make it guys. Between money issues and work it just didn't work out. I also found out that I broke the ventilation plate on my outdrive. Last time we had it out was 4th of July on Eufalua. The only thing I remember hitting was a log on the right side of the boat, but the plate that is busted is on the left side. Strange thing if you ask me. Find out where you guys want to try and meet up at again and let me know.

Hey BBO,
My first time posting on your thread. Looks like you did a lot of work in a hurry and top quality. You boat looks great.
It's really cool that you and arch hooked up on the water.
Great job.

It looks great and I am going to do the same seat area in rear to my 1992 186 Eclipse. My floors and everything else feel solid so I hope I dont run into any surprises. I have a question for you or anyone else that can answer it. My ski well holds water and does not have a drain, does yours have a drain or are they supposed to have one. I was going to drill a hole in it but wanted to check first.

Firecapt13,

Yes it has a drain. find it unglog it before you drill holes. Should be a pvc pipe right at the keel. at the aft bulkhead to the ski locker.

Firecapt, I'd be very surprised if it didn't have a drain unless someone has rebuilt the stringers and bulkheads at some point and didn't mke a drain hole. Look really hard for a plugged hole like LR said, and if you cant find one, just be very careful where you drill. Good luck with the seat as well. :)

Thanks a million for all the compliments. It certainly feels great getting her out on the water and cruising the lake without worries and with a dry bilge.:) Miss Morgan looks great in person too. Arch did outstanding work, and she looks just as emmaculate in person as she does on his thread. I was glad to get to hang out with him, and I hope we can get together with some of you other guys sometime.

Okay, here's a little vid of Archbuilder and Miss Morgan. As I mentioned before, it's a little choppy, so the vid didn't turn out great. You'll see at one point my wife actually gets tossed into the console. Anwho, here it is.

Hey thanks for posting the video BBO! Its kind of interesting to see how she rides in the water. Hopefully the water will be a little flatter next time we meet up. Nice job on your boat, and great use of toothpicks, lol! Whatever it takes!

Re: '84 Wellcraft Repairs and Paint SPLASHED

Okay here's the toothpick story. I pulled up to the staging area by the boat ramp and got the boat ready for launch. I bumped the ignition to make sure it would start, but I had no power. Crap! Didn't have power to the gauges or anything. So I reached under the dash and started fiddling with wires and noticed that the ignition fuse wasn't making good contact. If I pushed the wire connection over to one side it would make good contact. So I hollered to my wife to grab a toothpick I remembered seeing in a cup holder in the truck. She was like, um......okay......what te heck do you need a toothpick for. So I just jammed the toothpick up in the fuse terminal to hold it over to one side, and it worked like a charm. Didn't have a problem with it all weekend. I was pretty proud of my boat ramp mechanicing. :D

That is not any ol' toothpick, it is The Doctor's Brushpicks, and they are awesome!!!!!! I used them to clean out the jets on my carb! You don't have a complete toolkit on your boat without Brushpicks!

I actually have one in my mouth right now.

When you guys decide to do a meet up a little further south let me know. I would love to see arch's boat in person and hear the exhaust on the wellcraft.

Hey RobbyA, you are really close too I see. Just keep an eye on either my or Arch's thread for updates on the next meeting destination and time. Tell ya what, anyone who may be interested in meeting up with us here in Oklahoma sometime, just send me a PM so I can make sure you know when we make plans. I need to make a list of folks who live in the neighbrhood so I can make sure nobody gets left out.

Re: '84 Wellcraft Repairs and Paint SPLASHED

If you read the toothpick story, this might be humorous to you. My seadoo has not been running well, so my dad has been tinkering with it since I left it at his house last weekend. Today he put it in the water for a test run after some tweaks. Well, it didn't run worth a dang, so he tied it to the dock and started looking for the problem. Aha, he had left a fuel hose clamp loose from when he took the carbs off and the back carb wasn't getting enough fuel. Well, he forgot to bring his tools with him this time, so......what did he do......looked in the cup holder in this truck, and got a dime and used it to tighten up the hose clamp, and wouldn't you know it....it ran like a champ. So this week my dad and I have fixed two watercraft with 10 cents and a toothpick found in the cupholder of our trucks. :D I guess the apple doesn't fall to far from the tree. And next week, i'm gonna fix the tractor with a gum wrapper.:D:D

Re: '84 Wellcraft Repairs and Paint SPLASHED

Well, it's been a while since my last post, and even longer since I actually did any work to the boat. Since I got her running and almost finished, I just wanted to take a little break and enjoy her. Now I finally got around to starting on the stereo.

Here's what I've got: Stereo/cd/mp3, 400 watt amp, four 5 1/4 speakers, and two 8 in subwoofers. I'm thinkin that should be enough for an 18 ft. boat. :D So far I have the stereo head unit installed and wired, amp mounted and wired, the two subs and one smaller speaker mounted under the bench seat. Basically, I only lack mounting 3 of the 5 1/4 speakers and cleaning up the wiring a bit. Here's some pics.

Had to put up a canopy because it's so freakin hot, if I touched any metal it would blister the skin. Don't have the boat in my cousins nice big shop anymore.

The head unit mounted in the glove box, with a nifty little cover to keep it dry.

The two subs and one 5 1/4 in the bench.

Shown here is the quick detach connectors to the rear speakers so I can still remove the bench seat easily to access the engine compartment.

Should get it finished up tomorrow. The next order of business is to install some accessory lighting. I was thinking about some rope lights tucked up under the gunnels. Anyone ever use those? Like em?

Looks good! I would check on led lights, that I what I'm planning on using. You can get them is strips similar to rope light. Use less power and they will last a lot longer.

Did you build in the correct volume and seal the box for optimum thump from the subs? I can't wait to listen to some tunes on the water next weekend. :D
