85 25hp Johnson......Need a measurment please

Hello.....Lost a part and can't seem to find an original(because no one loses this part )<br /><br /> Could someone please give me the specs of the rod that goes on the motormount to hold/prop up the outboard on a 85 Johnson 25hp pull start/tiller......I don't have a mic and am trying to save my back from dragging it into the hardware store to get a steel rod.......Thanks Warren

You might try looking in your nut and bolt box and trying some different diameter bolts. I doubt very much if that rod is some unusual size. That wouldn't be like OMC. I don't have that motor, so I can't look, but I believe the one on my old '58 35hp is 5/16". <br /><br />It's going to be some standard size, for sure.

Just measured one for you. 5/16" by 6&1/2" should do you with enough length to put a nut on it.

Well......Been lookin everywhere and can't seem to find a place that has a 5/16 bolt that is 6 1/2 inches long......<br /><br /> The longest I can find is 6".....What should I do????<br /><br /> I know I can get a rod and cut it but its going to rust real quick....Also am not sure how I would drill a hole in a round rod the get the pin in it.......Any ideas???????.....Warren
