New to the forum but did a lot of reading on the resto threads, very informative I must say. I already tore out all wood but the stringers on this boat including the transom. I will put pics up soon as I can.
The 1 question I have is can I put in a 350ci in this boat and what do I have to do with the transom , it has a 3.7 470 in it right know I am rebuilding it for
next season but want to re power during winter of 2011. I am doing the transom now and would like to reinforce if have to. I am planning to do a 2" or 2 1/4 full transom.around outdrive
Would this be adequate

Ok can any one tell me if the wood on the transom should go all the down the bottom or leave a gap so their is no hard spot like the stringers?
having hard time adding pics is their a thread on here explaining the procedure.

I haven't heard of that being an issue but if you bed your transom in PL Premium adhesive just like you would your stringers it would eliminate and potential issue.

Post you motor swap questions in the I/O repair section for the best responses.

Re: 85 Areocraft Mach 2 rebuild

OK I am at the point of putting the new wood on the transom, I read a lot of threads on here and want to know your opinion on using 3m 5200 on gluing
wood to outer shell and layers of ply together. I would glue one layer at a time as to let ply form to shell and then fiberglass in with 1708 biaxial with poly resin then with finish veil to be able to get a smooth finish to paint as you will see this is a total rebuild their is not one piece of good wood in the boat. I know I don't have a pic of the total tear out but will put on tonight
this is my first endeavor into boat rebuilding and do not need to make a mistake.
Thanks Mike M

5200 will probably work but PL Premium is WAY cheaper and will get the job done just fine in this application.

Thanks for the reply ezmobee, I was just reading other threads and I guess I should soak the plywood with poly resin then laminate to outer skin or should I laminate plywood together after soaking in poly resin then gluing to outer skin.of course afterit all dried.

if you replaced all the "poly"s with "epoxy" then yes. Poly doesn't have near the adhesive qualities as epoxy. If you're going to use poly, I'd use the PL for all your laminating.

Ok I was just thinking I need to coat with poly and let dry before putting the plywood together with the pl, maybe I am just over thinking this process. Thanks again ezmobee

Re: 85 Areocraft Mach 2 rebuild

Here is some pics, I think I am done grinding on the transom but realy don't Know what to look for if someone could look at the pics and let me know what they think that would be great. I plan on just finishing the transom before it gets to cold ( going to inside storage end of oct) to fiberglass and do the stringers in march in the mean time I have the motor to contend with the # 2 cylinder rings were both broke in half , plan on doing a complete rebuild ( 470/170 hp )http://s948.photobucket.com/albums/ad327/sledjunky/85 Aerocraft mach 2/

Can anybody tell me if I am good to go with the wood on transom or is the pic not good enough for that determination.

I know I clicked into here yesterday and I'm thinking the pic wasn't showing or something. Anyway, that transom looks ready to go to me.

Re: 85 Areocraft Mach 2 rebuild

Ok I have resumed work on the mach 2 demo is done and stringers & bulkhead are ready to go in .
I do have a question does the edge of the deck sit on the edge of boat or above say 1/2 inch or so.I have seen boats with 3 inches or so of bottom . I want to cut the stringers but the final size is a question.
here is some picks of the progress so far http://s948.photobucket.com/albums/ad327/sledjunky/http://s948.photobucket.com/albums/ad327/sledjunky/85 Aerocraft mach 2/
