85 Ebbtide lever next to controls?

I just bought this Dynatrak and didn't do a sea trial since I need to do some work on it before it can go in the water (price was right and the motor is worth well more than I payed for everything). I have one question though. Next to the throttle control lever, there is another lever that is currently in a horizontal posistion. I can only lift this lever when the throttle lever is in the neutral position. What is the purpose of this lever? Before I get scolded for this, I do have some friends who will be going on the boat with me the first time I take it on the water. This is my first boat of this size as my other boats have all been small aluminums with tiller steering. I just want to get as much information about this boat as possible before actually driving her.

It's probably a "warm-up lever." It advances the throttle in neutral to give you a little more gas for starting and warming up if needed.

On some controls, the lever will drop by itself when you put it in gear. Others (old Merc) you can screw stuff up if you put it in gear with it up.

On a Yam 50 we have, you aren't supposed to start the engine with it up; it screws up the "computer" according to the manual. You only advance it after you have the motor started. That is not the case for any others I have ever seen, including other Yamaha's. However, this boat has many users so I bet half of them do it "wrong."

PLay around with it with your motor on muffs and the cover off so you can see how the controls all work. You need to know this in case you have to disconnect and bypass them.

I completely forgot about this post. I found some wood rot, so I've been living in the resto thread. I'll get a pic tonight when I get home, but the idea of a fast idle makes sense to me.
