Hello iboats, Over this past winter in Michigan I have decided to rebuild my 1985 50hp evinrude e50tlcob, I bought this motor for $200 off a guy who had it in his backyard for years. There were a few things wrong with it, lower unit had a crack from water damage, head gasket leaked, carbs were filled with oil you know the normal bad things that happen to a motor when not taken care of. After about $100 I got it running and used it all of summer 2010, it ran pretty good. I decided to do a complete restore to the motor, Crank, pistons, paint, everything. As of right now I have about $200 invested into it, I found a gearcase on ebay for $20 and bought a gasket kit for it. In a week or so I will be ordering the rest of the parts. In the end I will have right around $800 invested here are some pics.
The first pic is the $20 gearcase, no cracks, no dents, perfect shape.
The second pic shows what happens when VRO pumps don't work right. Upon inspecting the VRO I found nothing wrong with it no pin holes in the diaphragm or air leaks.
The Third pic shows the gearcase freshly painted.
The fourth shows more piston.
The Last pic shows the tilt/mount bracket painted.
