Re: 85 force wont get up on plane..
i have a 85 hp. force outboard that hasnt been ran in 5 years.. it starts right up and has no trouble with the motor.. but full throttle is nowhere near what it should be and the boat will not even get up on plane.. almost like its not getting gas, it has barely any power.. im thinking something may be clogged in the motor from sitting so long , but really dont have a clue where to begin.. ?!? really want to have this boat running and would greatly appreciate your imput!! thanks again
It sounds like you need to clean the engine out. Check the compression on all the cylinders to see where they are at. I have a 87 125 and I sit at 120 PSI on all 4 cylinders. If the compression checks out look on the forums for the decarb method to clean all of the carbon off of the cylinder walls which will also help clean your carbs.
If the boat has not ran in 5 years and has been in an up right position for this amount of time you probably have some build up on the cylinders/rings and not to mention the gunk that may be throughout.
Decarbing is not that difficult. Think of the things you would do to a car engine that has sat for this long pretty much the same just smaller. If you are not getting to plane then your RPM's may be off even though it sounds right to you.
