hey just wondering how to solve this problem,i have a 89 force 85 thats fairly easy to start ,will run with the throttle advanced will idle somewhat in the driveway but never in the water.
i can bump the choke to keep it running and if i try to throttle up slowly it stalls, but if i give it a quick choke and quickly floor it its fine.
WOT works great ,35 mph on a 17' bayliner i can throttle down to about 10 mph ,anything slower and it dies.
goes through a pile of fuel too, thought it was flooding but needing choke to idle seems otherwise
this is my first time owning a force motor, boat is plain, just a spedo ,no tach or power trim

Re: 85 force wont idle

It sounds like your idle circuits in your carbs sre plugged up or restricted somewhat. First I would add some seafoam to the gas tank and then out on the water with the hood off have some one steer the boat while you work the throttle and choke. get the engine up to about 3/4 throttle the slam the choke shut, let go of the throttle and choke as soon as the engine dies. It should pick up an idle and be okay. You may have to try this a couple times. If this does not work you will probably have to open up the carbs and clean them out. Good luck.

Idle RPM's in gear, in water should be 750-800. On muffs in driveway 10-1100.
