85 H P Force ????

Thinking of buying 1985....85 H P force. Could I get some feed back on this engine? Like...gas useage !!!! Who Makes it? It comes on a 17 ft. Bay Liner.Thanks.....Sandy

hey bill :) .. i had one[1984-85hp/16ft cuddy-b/liner] it drank gas like cazy :mad: .they are a high maintenance motor.[u.s.marine]made them...other than that. they are somewhat a good motor?.just keep an eye on it...........oh yeah..the stator[new] went and 2 power packs[used] over $400 in parts. :eek: ..parts are getting harder to find.....now go and buy a real motor ....wayne

Still looking,How bout a 1987 85 H P Evinrude.I suppose it is a gas guzzler also.????? ...Bill...

All boat motors are gas hogs, some a little more so. <br /><br /> As a general rule of thumb, you can figure gas consumption by:<br />#hp / 10 = gallons per hour at wide open throttle.<br />THis formula has sparked much "discussion" in the past, but lets say this would be a maximum figure and it depends on boat-hull-weight- sea conditions-engine design- age and condition of motor- AND throttle position.<br /><br />Also, most parts for most motors are expensive. The trick is to not buy something with a dark history, and then maintain and uses it properly so you don't have to buy parts.<br /><br />Good Luck.
