I am trouble shooting my motor for a no start.

I am getting fuel so i know thats not it.

So I looked at the manual and it shows the white wire as the power wire going to the buss block on the motor, but i have no power on the white wire.

I was looking on the the block and there is a wiring listing and it is listed that the white wire is for the magneto and this is where the ignition packs are wired too.

There is no power there, but further down there is a purple wire that is listed as magneto and it is hot, but nothing hooked up to it.

Should i hook up the 2 white wires that go to the ignition packs to the purple wire

Thanks

Re: 85 hp force magneto ?

Since I am not getting power from the white wire that comes from the ignition switch to the buss block, could the ignition switch be bad, even though the engine try's to turn over?

I get power to the starter and every where else except the white wire coming of the ignition switch

Re: 85 hp force magneto ?

Please do not mess with the wiring until you get a diagram! No matter what you think your manual says, white wire on ANY Chrysler/Force three and four cylinder engine is NEVER powered. Not even white from power packs. Always red and blue. White is either a tach signal, or a stop circuit, depending upon ignition type.

Really need the year though.

Its a 1985

I have the diagram and the manual, so I just need to get a push in the right direction:confused:

Re: 85 hp force magneto ?

1985 is Prestolite ignition.
Yellow is start, and attaches to "S" terminal on ignition switch.
White is stop and attaches to one "M" (magneto) terminal.
Green is choke and attaches to "C" terminal
Orange is overheat and does not attach to switch
Red is power and attaches to "B" or "BAT" terminal
Blue is stop and attaches to the other "M" terminal
Black is ground and attaches to a ground buss under the dash if needed. It is not absolutely necessary to use this wire.
Purple is tachometer signal and does not attach to switch.

"I" terminal on the switch is used for auxiliary power to things such as gauges and overheat indicator that are only on while the engine is running.

At the engine terminal from the top: Like colors attach
Yellow
purple
white
green
orange
red
blue Note that blue terminal should be jumpered to black
black

If the engine also has a man overboard kill switch, be certain that the clip is in.

To test: Disconnect either white or blue at the engine terminal and crank the engine. If it now gets spark, the problem is in the stop circuit or the ignition switch.
