I should also note that I was boosting the battery on the boat at one point with my truck to avoid wearing the battery down and it seems like there is a very large drain while cranking over the motor. If I watch my battery guage in the truck while the motor is being cranked there is a significant drop on the needle.

Good ground on the block from the battery? All grounds good?

This information may be a red herring. Is your battery gauge in your truck an ammeter or a volt meter? Was your truck engine running or not?
