I would not leave it out if you run in cooler waters. BUt OK for normal operation.

Rbowen,

funny, my problem sounded like yours up until the part where you got new muffs. Mine pees ok with muffs but doesn't pee on its own. As if the impeller is not working or I have a major leak somewhere. I replaced the impellor. and I noted that the impellor housing is mating to the tube. I don't see any other leaks. I removed the thermostat cover and had no water running up while the engine was at idle. Can anyone give some troubleshooting tips? Thanks.

Re: 85 hp Suzuki issues

My DT75 1984 had a problem where the plate under the impeller housing can be installed either way (face up or face down) it is important to get it the right way or you end up with the pump inlet (bottom) and outlet (top) aproximately superimposed so the water will not pump. The outlet should be 270degees cw from the inlet viewed from the top so water comes in the bottom and is pushed most the way around the pump before exiting. The reason muffs work is that the water has its own pressure to rise through the motor.
Hpe its that easy
Sirlespat
