85 Johnson 40 Hpto 92 Johnson 40hp

I blew my 85 40 hp and found a 92 40hp, my question is will the new one connect to the old controls and harnes? I noticed on the new one the control box is a little different, it has two levers side by side where my old one has the side lever and the idle control is on top instead of side by side. also will the parts interchange, lower unit, carbs ect..?

If I'm not mistaken, the motors are very different but use common cables and harnesses.

Thank you for the reply. The control boxes are different do you think the old one will work assuming the the cables and the harness work. They both have the big red plug inside the port side of the motor.
