hi dave,

when did it start alarming, after some recent work? some things i might check if it was mine, hopefully others will chime in: how lean do you have the carbs? is the oil/fuel mix spot on? what spark plugs are you running? is the intakes on the LU clean of debris? relief spouts appear to be working but have you changed the impeller and housing recently to know for sure?

g-luck

alarm didn't start until well into fishing. motor was spraying out the back strong so i don't think the pump or impeller are bad, but the impeller is three yrs old. due to the strong spray i think the intakes are clear. one person believes it could be a bad heat sensor or a thermostat problem. the carbs i adjuted to factory spec last year = 7/8 turn out. it was more the 50-1 ratio i was referring to, not enough oil in the mix.

A stuck thermostat will cause an overheat problem, and maybe not all the time. It is easy and not too much money.
Fuel mixture also, of course.

50 to 1 is the correct oil mix.

I have seen a thread about some small pieces of impeller in the passages, even though the flow looked good. Take it apart and back flush the passeges when you have the thermostat out. Just to be sure.

These are some things that I did when I changed my impeller and thermostat.

Hope it helps.

Mike
