I know their is something about it being set to 30 degrees, but what is the mark on the trigger that sets it to 30 degrees? is it 30 degrees looking at what side of the motor?

Go up and look at my video, carb and timing tutorial. I show a 5 cylinder engine but it is the same for the three cylinder.

that helps alot about the degrees the flywheel is set.

my question is, what point of the trigger lines up with the flywheel? The trigger has no mark on it, dont know if I need to add a pic or not to show what I am asking, basically the Trigger is adjusted by that screw you talked about, does the throttle end piece on the trigger that connects to the rod going to the carbs line up with the flywheel dead center?

there is NO point on the trigger! NO marks at all. And, you do not line it up with anything. If it does line up with a mark, it is just coincidence.

The lines on the flywheel are made to match the cast mark at the top of the manifold. This is a line just above the top carburetor flange. This mark indicates top dead center and when the 28 or 30 degree mark on the flywheel is set to it by adjusting the screw and two plastic blocks at wide open throttle, the ignition advance is correct.

This is what I am dealing with here:

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Its a reverse thread screw, it adjust the trigger to move. Theirs a nut that goes into the back of the screw that attaches to the piece going to the trigger.

Thats the spark advance adjustment screw. Should be set at 30dgr. BTDC at WOT. Use a timelight to check and set.

Well, first off, the plastic block at the trigger is broken and needs to be replaced.

I told you before, the screw and the trigger are not set to anything: The timing mark on the flywheel is set to the TDC mark on the manifold with the throttle at wide open throttle. In your photo, you can see the top of the TDC mark on the manifold, and it just so happens to be in front of the nose of the trigger. The flywheel is keyed to the crankshaft and unless the key has been broken, top dead center will be correct. So, install the flywheel with the pistons in any position--it doesn't matter.

NOW: When you replace the plastic block, remove both blocks from the engine. Screw both of them all the way onto the adjusting screw so that when you back out the screw they are even on both threads. Start with the blocks about 1/2 inch apart and time from there. As it stands now, the blocks are way too far apart and the timing is likely to be too far advanced.

I see now.

I know about the piece being broken, I cant seem to find one online anywhere though, marine shop I bought the trigger from said he sold the one that was on it

or does anyone know of a work around to fix that part or replace it with something else?
