I'm bringing my boat back to life and today I noticed fuel leaking from the carbs. I did, however, use carb cleaner on the carbs yesterday. Is this a sign that my carburators must be cleaned and rebuilt?

What year? Is this new to you or have you had it awhile. Take cover off and look to see where the fluid is coming from. Is it gas mixture or carb cleaner? Reply when you know these questions.

It is gas. I've primed the gas line and I see gas leaking for the seals of the carburator. I've accepted the I will have to rebuild the carbs.

If it is coming from the top of the carbs, your needle valve is not shutting off the fuel. How hard are you squeezing the ball? Sometimes you can overpower the float when squeezing the primer ball.

You may also have varnish or gum buildup on the needle seats. In this case, it is better to take them apart and clean and rebuild them. In the future, run the carbs dry before storing the boat and use a stabilizer in your fuel as this will cut down on the deposits in the fuel system.

Check the floats for pin holes.

And check for corrosion in the aluminum bowls.
