My motor just stopped on me, while cruising on the 4th. Wouldn't turn over pulled the plugs still wouldn't turn. I got it home spun it by hand. I pulled the head to check for damage I think I had water intrusion in a cylinder. one cylinder is a bit cleaner than the other 2 no gouges on the walls. Is the gasket material between the two parts of the head permatex ?

Are you talking about the head gasket?
The head gasket is just a head gasket no Permatex or other liquid gasket there.

If you have water intrusion in a cylinder the head gasket, exhaust cover plate gaskets or a crack in the water jacket are possible issues.

Put it back together( if possible) and do a compression test.
Low comp does what you described(hard turning over).

Post the results.

Sorry I guess I was asking about the water jacket cover. It had some sort of rubbery substance for a gasket. I was wondering if that was ok, or should I get the proper gasket.

I put the head back on, I used the old head gasket, and permatex for the water jacket cover. I have 130lbs on all 3. Turned over started fine on muffs. I am still wondering what would cause it to just stop while cruising, and not be able to spin the fly wheel. any ideas?

Maybe you blew a head gasket.
The uneven comp can cause the no turn.
Yu use Permatex or silicone to reinstall?
You might have fixed it?

I'd look for a new gasket as the old might not last?

head gasket is dry. the other plate that covers the water jacket was sealed with permatex. is there a gasket for the water jacket plate or is it supposed to be permatex? head.jpg

No there is no gasket for the head cover plate, soo use Permatex or other liquid gasket brands.
