I have a Clymer Manual and I don't think much of it...but the man at the repair shop talked me out of the factory one. My book says the timing should be @ 18 BTDC. Which cyl. is the number one cyl. Also, can I put a dial indicator on this cyl., bring it to the top and chck the numbers on the flywheel. If not is there an easier way to time this engine at home?

Thanks much!

Nr.1 is the top cylinder on the stbd. side. There's a lot of info one locating TDC and timing if you use the "search" function.

c/6
Hooty

#1 is on the throttle cable side.
vro- 2----1 cable
side 4----3 side
-
joe reeves posted a good way to set WOT without starting.
its been posted many times.
as suggested above do a search on timing or WOT timing.
-
it worked great for me.

you can figure most of the stuff out using this forum.
also do a search in the J/E section for 120 looper, 140 looper or just 120 - 140.
-
if you look at my post there is a pic of the spark tester & piston stop tool i made with help of this forum.
just cost me my time.
-
found this one to help with the timing
setting wot timing
