So, I'm by no means an expert, but I find myself a bit perplexed. Last year this motor ran flawless, no issues. Fore it up a few weeks ago and it's clearly not running right, almost seems to have periodic miss in it, but it ran ok. Figured maybe some old fuel mixed with new fuel.
Now its much worse. Under WOT is Boggs severely. I don't have a tac, but I would it's not where it needs to be. Feels like I'm only at half throttle.
I get it home and throw muffs on it and get to work. When on it idles well, no issues. Using the throttle lever at the engine, if I hold it slightly to accelerate it would sputter a put but would climb. If I then gunned it, it would high severely, every time...
I changed the primer, and the fuel pump, just in case, even though it wasn't dumping fuel. No change.
These carbs are spotless, I clean them every year. I test again and notice not all the spark plugs are hot to the touch, and when pulled, they are all dark and a bit wet. They all look the same, and are new spark plugs.
So this told me all my spark plugs aren't firing properly because they can't burn all the fuel they are getting. A mechanic friend of mine tells me to change both the switch boxes, it can cause this...so I do.
Now it seems the only problem that remains is when I gun it, it Boggs heavily. Now I suspect coil packs....i do an ohm test while the engine is running, according to test instructions, under load they should test at 800-1100 ohms. I think 3 or 4 were at 1500. Does this seem like enough out of range to be defective? Also, while holding at 1500 or so, if I accelerate, they skyrocket to almost 3k ohms, this is way out of range. What are the chances I have all 6 bad coils? Could the switchboxes been faulty and fried all 6 of them?
