I have a OA 86 200 Mariner Struggling with the rough idle. Well struggling alot, I've yet to plane this boat out. I'm hoping tomorrow, it'll do better at the lake. I'm thinking the reeds might be bad. I've been noticing a lot of fuel in my carb sound box. last night while idling the motor on muffs, I wiped off the carb throats. All nice and clean, did the paper in front of the carb trick and saw no fuel spots. But when I shut off the motor I notice fuel coming from the center of the carbs and drizzle out a little. Is this a carb issue or a reed issue I've taken the carb apart and there spotless. And I only see excess fuel when i turn off the motor.
What do you think?

first rule.. if ya take carbs (wh series) a part ya gotta replace tha gaskets with new no mater how good tha gaskets look.. all gaskets, inside and out.. gaskets are cheap.. you should be able ta see tha reeds with carbs removed.. if ya don't think ya have a good enough view of 'em that way tha reed plate comes off easy enough (carbs removed) ta really get a good look at 'em…

rough idle can be caused by several things.. usual, but not limited too, suspects are carburetor, fuel pump, idle timing etc..

Is it only happening after shut the engine off and trim it up for storage? If so, that's normal for these engines.

Think about this. The float bowl in the carb is full of fuel. When you trim up, you essentially tilt the float bowl and fuel runs out. Fill a glass with water and tilt it. Water runs out does it not. Same effect.

I've run v6 mercs since day one (1976) and never had that problem unless something wasn't right....

jus ta "qualify" that it was usually reeds and/or recirc stuff that was tha cause... oh yeah, floats way to high or stuck!

Thanks for all the responses, I did have the motor slightly tilted.I did take it to the lake on friday. It seemed to run a lot better., I think Ill go ahead the pull the carbs again, and look at three reeds. While I'm in there I might gasket the carbs. Someone in the prop forum seems to think I have a dead clyinder. But I don't know what else to check lol. Comp 115-120 , new stator, recifter, cleaned carbs, timed and snyzed per manual. 7/16" blue spark on each clynder. Hard get out of the hole. Like its stuck at like 2200 rpm, then once it finally starts to plane it takes off like a bullet. I'll littlerly ride a wellie for like 50 yards.
